Foreign affairs secretary Alan Peter Cayetano fired back at former president Benigno Aquino III saying the Aquino administration lost the Philippines’ battle over the Scarborough Shoal.
In an open letter addressed to Aquino, Cayetano said the loss meant a missed opportunity in expanding the tourism, infrastructure and agriculture sectors.
Cayetano made the remark after Aquino said that the former’s politics should be “”transparent as his hairstyle.”
“While we both lost some of our hair, your administration lost control of Scarborough and a great opportunity to expand tourism, infrastructure and agriculture. We also lost many opportunities for cooperation in fields like science and technology, protection of the environment, among others, all because of the approach you, together with former Sec. Del Rosario and Senator [Antonio] Trillanes, chose to adopt and implement,” Cayetano said.
The foreign affairs secretary added that Aquino should focus more on answering questions over the Scarborough Shoal than talking about his “politics”.
Cayetano also posed several questions which demand answers from Aquino, including the several calls and orders made when a stand-off between Chinese and Filipino ships happened and the role of several officials under the Aquino administration during the issue, particularly Trillanes’.
