Philippine authorities enforced a tighter security at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport after the bombing incident in Basilan on Tuesday.
Manila International Airport Authority General Manager Ed Monreal said that eight explosive detection equipments will be used in random inspections; security officers and K9 units will also be more visible and proactive, while police will have more frequent vehicle checks.
MIAA Public Affairs Department’s officer-in-charge Consuelo Bungag said that there will be no additional security personnel but there will be 100 percent manning of posts in all shifts, reported PNA.
The MIAA Chief assured that there is no reason to panic and advised passengers to go with the necessary check-in procedures. He also said that the security enhancements are for the benefit of the public and asked for the cooperation of the passengers.
