An unidentified group of gunmen kidnapped five civilians who work at a water plant in south eastern Libya.
An official, who decided to remain anonymous for security reasons, said that the abducted workers, including three Filipinos and a South Korean, were employed as technicians at the Al Hassouna plant, reported The National.
The armed group also kidnapped several other Libyan workers, but later released them, the official added.
“An armed attack was carried out by terrorist groups on the Tazirbu site causing havoc, looting, killing and terrorising families, children and the workers who ensure the supply of water to cities,” the Great Man-made River Project, a pipeline network supplying water to the Libyan Sahara, said in a statement.
The said project confirmed the abduction and demanded the release of the workers as soon as possible.
Various armed militant groups are present in Libya, including those which are linked to al Qaeda and Islamic State.
