Hitting UAE roads with expired car registration? Think again

A total of 18,640 vehicles have been impounded since the a new system took into effect in December 31 last year, that imposes a hefty fine to vehicles hitting UAE roads with expired registration.

Violators are slapped with a fine of Dh500 and incur four black points. Their vehicle will also be impounded for seven days.

Motorists are given 30 days from the date their vehicle’s registration expiration to settle needed requirements such as having the vehicle repaired before inspection for registration.

Scanners of vehicles with expired registration keep an eye along major roads in UAE such as Sheikh Zayed Road and Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Highway.

In case motorists missed it, they are now required to renew their car’s registration every year to ensure that vehicles driving on main roads in the country are safe, reported The National.

In Ajaman, smart cameras installed in major highways also detect motorists with expired vehicle licences.

Colonel Khalid Mohammed Al Nuaimi, deputy director general of police operations, reminded motorists to renew registration to avoid termination of their licenses in cases of road accidents.

He added that insurance companies will not shoulder the expenses in accidents which involve vehicles with expired licenses.
