Former justice secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II on Tuesday said he believes Malacañang may offer him a position in the government.
Aguirre said he believes the Palace has ‘something’ for him. However, no definite offer has been made yet.
The former justice secretary said should the offer reach his table, he would not hesitate to accept the government position.
“Public service… nasanay na rin ako for the past.. almost two years. Although mahirap din sa buhay ko at this age, but like the President (Rodrigo Duterte), handa tayong magsakripisyo for government service to serve the public,” Aguirre said in an interview in Unang Balita.
Meanwhile, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said he has no idea if Aguirre will be given another government position.
Aguirre resigned from his post as justice secretary on April 5 following the dismissal of criminal charges against alleged drug lords Kerwin Espinosa and Peter Lim and the partial admission of pork barrel scam mastermind Janet Lim Napoles into the justice department’s witness protection program.
Following his resignation, critics called out Aguirre for shredding documents before leaving his office. Aguirre clarified that the papers were only ‘waste papers’.
“You could see that up to now no one in the DOJ is looking for any document because nothing important was shredded. All of these are waste papers,” Aguirre said.
Recently, Aguirre was linked to the P65.69-million public funds which the DOJ allegedly deposited to three unauthorized bank accounts.
The former justice chief has also denied any involvement in the finance issues of the justice department.
