Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) secretary Silvestre Bello III went open with his interest to become the next Ombudsman.
In a television interview with ABS-CBN late Tuesday night, Bello admitted he is vying for the position to be vacated by Ombudsman Conchita Carpio-Morales.
The labor secretary also expressed his short and straightforward plea to Duterte – “Make me the Ombudsman.”
“I keep telling the president. Ang sabi niya, ang kanyang krusada ay laban sa corruption, tapos ang sabi ko: ‘Tulungan kita,” Bello said.
Bello said the President’s dedication to eradicate corruption in the government inspired him to seek for the position in the Office of the Ombudsman.
“Actually, it just occurred to me recently nung President keeps harping on corruption. Yun ang focal point ng Ombudsman,” Bello said.
The labor secretary shared that the new position would be “a new challenge, a new field.”
Bello said he has submitted his application to the Judicial and Bar Council (JBC), the body which will screen applicants before submitting the shortlist to the president.
Carpio-Morales will be leaving the highly coveted post on July 26, 2018.
