Abu Dhabi court orders bank to pay customer Dh124,000 for exorbitant credit card charges

An Abu Dhabi customer will receive Dh124,000 refund from his bank after filing a lawsuit for his ‘unrealistic’ credit card bills.

The unidentified customer was only supposed to pay the bank a total of Dh98,000 for using a credit card to withdraw money in 2008. However, in nine years of paying the monthly bills, his payments racked up to Dh229,000.

As per Khaleej Times report, the man had asked the bank to close his credit card account before hand. However, the bank asked him to pay an additional Dh52,682 for the closure of the account. This lead him to file a lawsuit against the unnamed bank.

During the trial, Abu Dhabi Commercial Court demanded the bank to pay the customer back with Dh104,000 for the extra payments they asked him to pay.

The customer will also receive additional Dh20,000 for the stress caused by the exorbitant bills.
