PET prepares for VP election recount

The Presidential Electoral Tribunal (PET) will conduct an inspection of the venue where the recount of votes during the 2013 vice presidential elections will happen.

Led by PET Clerk of Court and Supreme Court (SC) Banc Clerk of Court lawyer Edgar Aricheta, the inspection is set to happen on Tuesday at 10:30 in the morning.

The recount on April 2, which was initially scheduled in February, will center on votes from Camarines Sur, Iloilo, and Negros Oriental.

According to Bongbong Marcos, the results in the three provinces will prove that there were irregularities in the vice presidential elections where Marcos lost to Ma. Leonor “Leni” Robredo.

In June 2016, Marcos filed a complaint citing irregularities in the Robredo camp which resulted to his loss in the elections.

In his protest, Marcos contested the results from 132,446 precincts in 39,221 clusters, covering 27 provinces and cities.

Robredo responded by filing a counter-complaint citing the questionable results in more than 30,000 precincts where Marcos won.

Robredo won the vice presidential race in the May 2016 polls with 14,418,817 votes or 263,473 more than Marcos’ 14,155,344 votes.
