DFA to file cases vs sellers of endorsements for passport appointments

Department of Foreign Affairs Undersecretary Joel Montales warned sellers of endorsement letters released by the government offices for passport appointments that they will not hesitate to file cases against them.

The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) and Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) are currently doing investigation after DFA discovered such trend.

“We’ve uncovered some agencies. At the moment, we’re not at liberty to say that because they are under investigation by NBI (National Bureau of Investigation) and CIDG (Criminal Investigation and Detection Group),” Montales said in an interview of GMA.

According to Montales, the endorsements released by the government agencies allow the applicants to use the courtesy lane for fast and convenient applications.

Although the DFA honors endorsement letters, he said some endorsements of applicants were falsified, while the others acquire authentic ones with a fee.

As per investigations, Montales hinted that there are directors and other officials in higher positions who permit the sale of endorsements or even sell the document.
