The United Arab Emirates (UAE) will build a Dh500-million Mars Science City, the world’s largest space stimulation city and a realistic mode to stimulate living on the Red Planet.
Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan launched the sophisticated Mars Science City project that will cover 1.9 million square feet.
The Mars Science City project will be led by teams from the Mohammed bin Rashid Space Center and Dubai Municipality — composed of Emirati scientists, engineers, and designers — in cooperation with renowned architects Bjarke Ingels from Denmark.
“We have great confidence in our national work teams, and Emirates Mars Mission prove that our youth are trustworthy and capable of achieving national ambitions,” Khaleej Times has quoted HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed.
The Mars Science City will have several domes with innovative construction techniques providing support for the structures.
To have the realistic simulation environment of Mars, the city will have advanced laboratories stimulating Mars’ terrain and environment with the help of advanced 3D printing technology and heat and radiation insulation.
Humanity’s greatest space achievements will also be featured in the museum section of Mars Science City. The museum’s wall will be 3D printed, using sand from the Emirati desert
“We also want to consolidate the passion for leadership in science in the UAE, contributing to improving life on earth and to developing innovative solutions to many of our global challenges,” HH Sheikh Mohammed Al Maktoum said.
The Mars Science City will also have laboratories for food, energy, water and agricultural testing and studies about food security in the future.
“[UAE] believe in the potential of space exploration, and in collaborating with global partners and leaders in order to harness the findings of this research and movement that seeks to meet people’s needs and improve quality of life on earth,” HH Sheikh Mohammed Al Maktoum said.
