Angelic and harmonious voices filled the Parish Church of Sant Romà in Spain as a choir of four to 14-year old Filipino children made their debut in the international chorale scene.
Barcelona-based Kudyapi Children’s Choir took home the silver prize in the children’s choir category as well as the special original performance award at the 7th ‘Pau Casals’ Choir Competition & Festival “Canco Mediterrania” held September 13.
The choir, composed of children born in Spain to Filipino parents, energetically performed to Gloria Estefan’s “Turn the Beat Around”, Filipino folk song “Salidumay”, and Lea Salonga’s “I Am But a Small Voice” under the baton of Arnel German Lamorena.
“You have done a great job and I like your Filipino music and we are happy and we will invite you next year,” ABS-CBN News quoted organizer Jaromir Pyzia as saying.
Lithuania’s all-female choir Veni Gaudere was declared as the grand winner.
The competition and festival took place in Barcelona & Lloret de Mar from September 12 to 17.
