Woman asks: Is this my son with Maute?  

    One of the individuals in a photo posted by Maute group could be a boy, who was kidnapped seven years ago. Rowhanisa Abdul Jabar said an armed child in a photo posted by the Islamic State-inspired group resembles her son, Ram-Ram, who was kidnapped from their residence in Tondo when he was three years old. Capt. Jo-ann Petinglay, spokesperson of Joint Task Force Marawi and Western Mindanao Command, said a lot of minors were lured by the extremist group.

PNP urged: Remove rogue cops  

Senators urged Philippine National Police (PNP) Director General Ronald dela Rosa to reorganize the police force to regain public trust. Senator Sherwin Gatchalian said the PNP leadership should strengthen internal disciplinary measures and wipe out scalawags in the force. Gatchalian added the police leadership should not tolerate abuse, especially on victims who allegedly resisted in drug operations.

Palace on Kian: Let law take due course   

Presidential Spokesperson Ernesto Abella said investigation on the killing of 17-year-old Kian Delos Santos has already started. Abella said criminal charges have been filed against policemen involved on Delos Santos’ death. He said this signals the beginning of “process to attain justice”. Policemen claimed they defended themselves from Delos Santos, who resisted during the “one time, big time” operation against illegal drugs in Caloocan.

Infighting erupts at election body   

Commission on Elections Chairman Juan Andres Bautista has once again made the headlines after being blamed for the delay of printing of ballots for the upcoming barangay elections. Bautista, who was accused of amassing nearly P1-billion worth of ill-gotten wealth, allegedly failed to sign the required memorandum of agreement with state-owned National Printing Office, which resulted in delay of printing of ballots or the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections.
