‘Top to bottom’ corruption at Customs
Senator Panfilo Lacson has released a list of alleged bribe givers and receivers at the Bureau of Customs, which includes recently ousted BOC chief Nicanor Faeldon. In a privilege speech on Wednesday, Lacson said Faeldon was among the 41 BOC officials who received payoffs through a “tara” (payola) system. Faeldon denied Lacson’s claim and called for a third-party investigation “so that justice will be served”.

Lacson bares BOC corruption
Senator Panfilo Lacson detailed corruption at the Bureau of Customs, which includes a “pasalubong” gift for former BOC chief Nicanor Faeldon. According to Lacson, Faeldon received a P100 million welcome gift when he started his post at Customs head last year. Lacson also identified 44 bribe givers, who include five “big players” namely David Tan, “Kimberly”, “Gamboa”, Teves Groups, Manny Santos, and the Davao Group.

Nobody wants to kill innocents – Duterte
President Rodrigo Duterte warned law enforces to not commit the killing of innocents during operations that seek to wipe out drug cases in the country. Duterte said the killing of Kian Loyd Delos Santos, who was accused of being a drug runner, was not a result of “performance of duty”. Duterte added he directed Philippine National Police chief Director General Ronald dela Rosa to arrest policemen involved in Delos Santos’ death.

Three lawmakers supported a call to impeach Commission on Elections chairman Andres Bautista amid issues of ill-gotten wealth disclosed by his estranged wife, Patricia Bautista. Cavite Rep. Abraham Tolentino, Cebu Rep. Gwendolyn Garcia, and Kabayan partylist Rep. Harry Roque Jr. back Former representative Jacinto Paras and lawyer Ferdinand Topacio’s impeachment complaint, which accused Bautista of betrayal of public trust and culpable violation of the Constitution.
