Dependents and beneficiaries of active overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) will soon have more college grant options as the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) relaunches its scholarship programs for the next school year.
OWWA temporarily halted its Education for Development Scholarship Program (EDSP) and the Overseas Dependent Scholarship Program (ODSP) due to the implementation of K-12 program in 2015.
Under the EDSP, 1,000 direct dependents of active OWWA members who are currently enrolled in Grade 12 incoming college freshmen, or part of the top 20 percent of their graduating class, may receive up to P60,000 financial assistance per school year.
Second to fifth year college students aged below 30 years are also eligible for the program.
The EDSP also covers P300,000 group health and accident insurance.
Scholarship hopefuls must pass a national qualifying examination that will be proctored by the Department of Science and Technology.
Meanwhile, OWWA will offer ODSP grant to dependents of OFWs with a monthly salary of P30,478 or below.
This program is for children of active OWWA members aged 21 years old (for incoming freshmen) and not more than 30 years old (for dependents already enrolled in four-or-five-year programs).
ODSP covers P20,000 financial assistance for tuition and other academic-related expenses.
OWWA will submit application until July 25, 2017 at the OWWA Center Building 7th street corner F.B. Harrison st., Pasay City.
Interested applicants may connect with OWWA authorities at 832-1268.
