Expats and residents alike will feel safer in the streets of Ras Al Khaimah as 73,375 CCTV cameras have been installed inside and outside RAK establishments.
The video surveillance systems working 24/7 will strengthen security and prevent crime in the emirate.
The CCTV mandatory in all locations identified as desirable, Ras Al Khaimah Police said on Tuesday.
The police informed government departments, business premises, owners of buildings, parking lots, mosques, and hotels two months prior to install the cameras on their premises. Anyone who did not comply would face penalties in accordance with the law, said Major-General Ali Abdullah Bin Alwan Al Nuaimi, Commander-in-Chief of Ras Al Khaimah Police.
The RAK police project “Himaya”, which means “protection” in Arabic, aims to enhance safety in the emirate and reach zero percent crimes by 2021.
Other facilities such as centers, shops, hospitals, schools, hotels, rest houses, jewelry shops, and villas were also placed under digital surveillance.
The comprehensive surveillance system has been instructed by His Highness Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah.
