Police nabs OFW couple in alleged shabu trade

The Zamboanga Police arrested three people, including a couple who are Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW), for alleged illegal drug trade.

Superintendent Nonito Asdai, Police Station 6 chief, said the authorities first arrested Almujir Sabtal of Sulu at a downtown hotel during an anti-illegal drugs operations on Saturday, SunStar reported.

Asdai said the OFW couple, Carmin Maluddin and Sakur Alijam, were arrested in a separate operation after Sabtal revealed them as the source of shabu worth P60 million (Dh4.40 million).

Maluddin, who is scheduled to return to her work as an administrative assistant in the Middle East on July 8, denied Sabtal’s accusations and claimed that they merely accommodated him since he has nowhere to stay.

Maluddin added they were unaware that Sabtal is involved in illegal drug trade.

Sabtal said the couple pays him P10,000 (Dh732) as commission for every kilo of shabu sold.
