The Philippine Sports Commission will be rewarding gymnast and world champion Carlos Yulo of incentives worth P750,000 after his recent wins at the 2021 World Gymnastics Championships.

Yulo won a gold medal in the vault category and a silver in parallel bars held at the Kitakyushu General Gymnasium in Kitakyushu, Japan.

Yulo earned P500,000 for the gold medal and P250,000 for the silver medal according to a statement of PSC.

Yulo is the first Filipino to win back-to-back medals for the country in the world championship event.

“He has bounced back and showed us that he is still our world champion in gymnastics,” said PSC Chairman William “Butch” Ramirez.

Yulo wanted to redeem himself after failing to secure a podium finish at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. He was also not able to defend his title at the floor exercise and ranked 5th from his previous pet event.

“Every incentive that he receives is well-deserved. By sheer will and determination, Caloy has created his own niche in the halls of Philippine Sports history. Caloy is truly an inspiration to our youth and Filipino athletes,” Ramirez said. (TDT)
