President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. downplayed health concerns after experiencing discomfort that led to brief medical observation, joking that critics should not get “too excited” as his condition is not serious.
Malacañang said Marcos was brought to St. Luke’s Medical Center on Wednesday night as a precautionary measure.
Presidential Communications Undersecretary Claire Castro said the President’s doctors advised rest and monitoring, noting that his condition remained stable.
“The President continued to carry out his responsibilities while under medical observation and has returned to Malacañang,” Castro said.
In a video released by the Presidential Communications Office, Marcos disclosed that he has diverticulitis, which he described as a common condition linked to stress and aging. Appearing in good spirits, the 68-year-old President brushed off speculation about his health.
“Don’t be too excited because this is not a life-threatening condition,” Marcos said, adding that “the rumors of my death are highly exaggerated.”
Marcos said doctors advised him to slow down but stressed that he is now feeling better and able to work. Despite this, he skipped two public engagements and was represented by Ralph Recto at an awards ceremony at Malacañang. His scheduled attendance at activities in Ilocos Norte was also canceled.
Castro said the President may have experienced fatigue after working early in the day but emphasized that doctors have since cleared him and that he has resumed work at the Palace.
