The Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) has partnered with Amazon to launch what is described as the world’s most comprehensive digital Arabic collection, the Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Centre (ALC) announced at the Congress of Arabic and Creative Industries.
The three-year initiative will make thousands of Arabic-language books available in eBook and audiobook formats, aiming to expand global access to Arabic literature and culture.
As part of the partnership, Amazon will introduce a dedicated storefront for Arabic titles, giving millions of customers access to eBooks and audiobooks in one platform. The storefront will combine Amazon Ads, AWS cloud technology, and ALC’s publishing expertise to highlight works from across the Arab world.
The project aligns with ALC’s mission to promote Arabic readership worldwide, preserve and digitise Arabic heritage, and engage younger audiences through Kindle and Audible.
With more than 400 million Arabic speakers globally, the initiative will target both regional readers and diaspora communities that remain underrepresented in digital publishing.
ALC will work with publishers across the Middle East and North Africa to digitise print titles, while Amazon will provide global marketing and distribution support.
The programme will also assist publishers in transitioning to the digital market, creating new opportunities for Arabic authors and content producers to reach readers internationally.
“This collaboration represents a milestone in our mission to elevate Arabic literature and champion our national language,” said His Excellency Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak, Chairman of DCT Abu Dhabi.
“Leveraging Amazon’s global reach and expertise, the partnership will provide a gateway for readers everywhere to experience the depth and diversity of written Arabi
