Flights are set to become more affordable as the Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB) announces a reduction in fuel surcharges for both domestic and international routes.
CAB’s advisory says fuel surcharge rates will decrease from Level 6 to Level 5 from July 1 to 31.
A fuel surcharge is an additional fee apart from the base fare imposed by service providers, including airlines, shipping companies, and logistic firms, to offset the fluctuating costs of jet fuel. It helps companies manage the unpredictable changes in fuel prices and maintain profitability without frequently changing base rates.
“For fuel surcharge to be collected in equivalent currency, the applicable conversion rate for the same period is 1 USD =58.07PHP,” the CAB said.
Under Level 5, domestic passengers will pay a fuel surcharge ranging from PHP 151 to PHP 542. For international flights originating in the Philippines, the rate varies from PHP 498.03 to PHP 3,703.11, depending on the distance.
Level 5 is lower than Level 6, where the surcharge rates range from PHP 185 to PHP 665 for domestic flights and PHP 610.37 to PHP 4,538.4 for international flights.
“Airlines wishing to impose or collect fuel surcharge for the same period must file its application with this Office on or before the effectivity period, with fuel surcharge rates not exceeding the above-stated level,” the CAB said.
