The Dubai International (DXB) has been accredited by the Airports Council International (ACI) for its commitment to accessible travel operations.

In a tweet on Wednesday, the Dubai Media Office said the recognition aligns with the ACI World General Assembly Resolution and the United Nations’ Convention on the Rights of Persons, emphasizing the rights of individuals with disabilities.

“Dubai International Airport (DXB) has received the prestigious accessibility accreditation from the Airports Council International (ACI) for its commitment to a safe and inclusive airport experience for people of determination,” it wrote.

“The first-of-its-kind accreditation recognises excellence among global airports in accessible travel operations. The recognition supports Dubai’s vision of becoming the world’s leading disability-friendly city,” it added.

The two-year plan launched by DXB focuses on enhancing the airport experience for People of Determination (POD), including passengers with physical and hidden disabilities. This initiative introduces a travel planner for pre-travel preparation, an Autism Friendly Route, and a comprehensive training program.

Under the slogan ‘We all meet the world differently,’ DXB’s POD initiative contributes to Dubai’s vision of becoming a disability-friendly city and raises awareness globally for travelers with disabilities.

Majed Al Joker, Chief Operating Officer, expressed the commitment of Dubai Airports to inclusivity, especially for passengers with hidden disabilities such as autism and chronic fatigue. The ACI accreditation validates their efforts and motivates them to continue prioritizing the rights and needs of POD throughout their journey.

“DXB is leading the way to make travel more inclusive by introducing thoughtfully designed infrastructure, such as a prioritised route through check-in, passport control, and security. These services and facilities are available to all POD with hidden disabilities as part of the sunflower lanyard scheme,” Al Joker stated.

“We will continue to drive the common goal of Dubai and its leadership for an inclusive community that is free from barriers and empowers POD” he added.

The ACI accreditation is an international program dedicated to measuring and improving airport accessibility for passengers with disabilities. It allows airports to demonstrate their adherence to international best practices and serves as a foundation for further enhancements in accessible airport experiences.
