During President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s first State of the Nation Address on Monday July 26, Sen. Risa Hontiveros piqued the curiosity of many netizens for not clapping when President Bongbong Marcos’ name was announced to deliver the State of the Nation Address (SONA).
Several netizens reuploaded footage from the House of Representatives session hall where they saw that Sen. Hontiveros simply stood and didn’t clap at all when Marcos entered the Batasang Pambansa for his first SONA.
Sen. Hontiveros hoped that Marcos’ first SONA addressed and/or mentioned corruption and how the administration plans to fight it. She also said that she opposes the push for the mandatory ROTC which was mentioned as one of the priority legislations under the PBBM admin.
However, she praised Marcos’ inclusion of giving solo parents particularly single moms protection, as well as the call for renewable energy.
On her personal Instagram page, the lady senator said that she’s fully prepared to fulfil her duties at her office for the next six years.
“Dahil din sa katangian ng Senado na independiyenteng institusyon, tapos yung mga ugali naming mga Senador na we can work with each other across the Minority, Majority, Independent lines, hindi hadlang ang pagkakaiba namin sa pakikitrabaho, basta’t common advocacy,” assured Sen. Hontiveros.
