President Rodrigo Duterte has confirmed that he will run for vice president in the 2022 elections during his late-night speech on Tuesday.
“Tatakbo ako ng bise presidente. Then, I will continue the crusade…Number one is insurgency. Then criminality, drugs,” the President said.
PDP-Laban was the first to announce that Duterte accepted the nomination of him running for VP.
“I may not have the power to give direction or guidance. But I can always express my views in public. For whatever it may be worth in the coming days, nasa Pilipino na yan,” Duterte added.
Senator Risa Hontiveros and other senators have reacted to the decision of President Rodrigo Duterte to run for Vice President in 2022.
“E di wow. Every party has its own process of candidate nomination. But it seems some gatekeepers in PDP-Laban have turned Ka Nene’s original party into a “zombie” institution which is only performing rituals empty of substance and principle,” Hontiveros said in a statement.
She added that the decision is much worse than a version of the horror film ‘Shake, Rattle and Roll’.
“President Duterte started his presidential run with a whole lot of drama and it looks like he will be leaving us the same way – trying to confuse us, and all the more in search of a true leader,” she said.
Senator Ping Lacson said that Duterte’s decision will have no impact on his and Senate President Tito Sotto’s decision to meet you.
“It won’t matter to my and Senate President Sotto’s determination to run in the May 2022 national elections. We have already declared, and at this point in time, there is no turning back,” Lacson said.
Opposition coalition 1Sambayan calls the decision a mockery of the constitution.
“It shows a clear mockery of our Constitution and democratic process. Obviously, this is driven by fear of accountability both from the ICC and from our own justice system,” the group said.
