WATCH: Dubai Police issues reminder for motorists on usage of fast lane

Dubai Police warned that refusal to give way to other motorists in the fast lane is illegal despite driving within limit.

The Roads and Transport Authority in Dubai (RTA Dubai) and Dubai Police released a video informing the public on should the fast lane be utilized and it should primarily be used for emergency and overtaking vehicles.

“The Dubai Police and RTA remind you to keep the fast lane free unless you’re overtaking another vehicle. … Refusing to give way in the fast lane is illegal,” the Dubai Police said.

“Always drive in the right lane to ensure smooth traffic on the highway. In case a fast vehicle approaches you from behind, make way even if you’re driving within the speed limit,” the video message added.

Police officers can issue Dh400 penalty and four black points to violators.

A motorist can also face a fine of Dh400 against motorists for failing to keep a safe distance from the vehicle in front.

“In case the driver doesn’t make way for you, avoid tailgating and keep a safe distance from other vehicles. Remember, the fast lane is only for overtaking and emergency vehicles have priority,” the Dubai Police added. (TDT)
