Roque to follow-up with PhilHealth on payables of private hospitals

Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque will personally follow-up on the unsettled debt of state medical insurer Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) to a private hospital.

In a press briefing on Monday, Roque said he will question PhilHealth President Dante Gierran as to the status of the payable of the private hospitals.

A reporter quoted the Medical City in saying that the state agency still owes them P1 billion, as of December 2020.

Roque emphasized that not paying these hospitals would mean “endangering public health and thereby endangering national security.”

He added private hospitals make up 60 percent of the national health system’s total bed capacity.

Last year, PhilHealth also incurred a multimillion-peso debt to the Philippine Red Cross over its tests for the COVID-19. (ES)
