Filipino experts say that aside from the new variant of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) from the UK, the one from South Africa has yet to reach the country.
According to Philippine Genome Center (PGC) Executive Director Cynthia Saloma, genome lineage analysis study showed that the dominant variant in the Philippines is still the D614G mutation.
The Department of Health (DOH) earlier said that the UK variant BC117, has yet to be detected in the Philippines. However, Hong Kong recently found the new COVID-19 variant in a passenger who came from Manila on December 22.
