Dubai residents can expect to be dazzled with an amazing meteor shower spectacle to take place mid-December.
The ‘Geminid’ meteor shower occurs every year from December 4 to 16. This year, Dubai residents will witness the peak of this celestial phenomenon on the evening of December 13 until the morning of December 14 – where over hundreds of bright meteor showers are expected to be in sight per minute.
The meteor shower gets its name from the constellation ‘Gemini’ as shooting stars emerge from this star formation.

In Dubai, estimates of 120 meteors per hour will be visible on the eve of December 13 to early hours of December 14, appearing 58° above your north-eastern horizon at midnight, as per reports from The Brew.
The Geminid meteor shower is nearly 200 years old, according to known records — the first recorded observation was in 1833 from a riverboat on the Mississippi River.
Experts from the Dubai Astronomy Group are organizing a “Geminids Meteor Shower Event” for residents who wish to view the showers at a certain secluded area at the Al Qudra desert.
Join us, away from the city lights, on the night of the 13th at Al Qudra Deserts and witness the Geminids Meteor Shower!

Residents who wish to view this celestial phenomenon on their own are advised to find a secluded viewing spot, away from the city lights.
Once at your chosen spot, your eyes may take 20 minutes to get used to the dark. Lie down on the ground and look up in the direction of the radiant.
