The UAE and the Philippines have been included as part of CNN’s listing for ‘Cities of the Future’ that celebrates cities and communities that create innovative solutions to make life in their respective areas future-proof, and environment-friendly at the same time.
Dubai’s ‘Sustainable City’ and the Philippines ‘New Clark City’ made the list, citing innovative use of solar power, and optimized building solutions that consume little energy.
The Sustainable City in Dubai located at the Al Qudra road spans over 5 million square foot, with facilities and buildings designed to consume zero net energy.
This green city provides power to 500 homes through solar energy. The Sustainable City also grows its own vegetables within 11 biome greenhouses, and all of its water is recycled within the area. There are no cars within this area of Dubai as well.
Meanwhile, the New Clark City in the Philippines began groundwork as early as 2018. The masterplan for this area is for the place to be resilient to natural disasters and be pollution-free.
One of the primary reasons behind the construction of the New Clark City is to act as the country’s ‘back-up’ city where the government can relocate their services in case the capital, Manila, goes offline due to natural disasters such as typhoons, floods, or earthquakes.
The first phase of the New Clark City is expected to be completed by 2022.
