Markina residents are advised to be vigilant as the Marikina River’s water level is currently at 22 meters for the first time in three years due to Typhoon ‘Ulysses’, increasing the risk for rain-induced landslides.

Marikina Mayor Marcelino Teodoro stated that this is similar to what the city experienced during Typhoon ‘Ondoy’ in 2009, when water levels peaked at 21.5 meters.

“Parang naaalala natin, ang karanasan natin ay katulad ng Ondoy. Dinalaw din tayo ng Ondoy, ganitong oras, disoras ng gabi at nabigla ang lahat,” said Teodoro.

The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration warned those who reside near the areas of possible rain-induced landslides due to severe flooding.
