WATCH: Vico Sotto in viral video for confronting businessman who demolished shanties

Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto is now in a viral video after confronting a businessman who ordered a demolition of the houses of informal settlers.

The video showed another side of the usually ‘calm’ and ‘cool’ young mayor as he asked the businessman on why he did the demolition.

“Ano po gusto ninyong mangyari dito? Gusto ‘nyo makulong kayo? O mumurahin mo rin ako gaya ng pagmumura mo sa tao ko?” Sotto began.

Sotto was resolving the issue between the businessman Selwyn Lao and his city hall employees.

“Alam mo ba kung ano’ng nangyari dito,” the businessman asked.

The mayor then responded by saying he is aware of what is happening between the businessman and his people.

“Oo, alam ko. Sinubukan mong mag-demolish nang may tao sa loob ng bahay,” Sotto said.

Lao denied the incident and said that there’s another video which will prove the mayor otherwise. The mayor insisted that Lao was caught in the video ordering the demolition.

The businessman added that he wants to demolish the shanties because his property is now being used as a drug den.

“May karapatan ka bang mag-demolish? Eh bakit hindi ka tumawag ng pulis?” the mayor asked.

Lao insisted that the demolition site is his property but Sotto said that the businessman has no court order authorizing the demolition.

The businessman added that the dwellers are using their children to block the demolition from happening.

Sotto told Lao that a building he owned covered the sidewalk and that trucks he had brought in ruined the pavement.

The mayor said that Lao could’ve used proper and legal channels if he wanted to demolish the shanties.

Lao’s lawyer, her daughter said that city hall officials were the first ones to inspect the area for suspicious activities.

The mayor said he is now studying possible legal charges against the businessman.
