The Philippine Consulate General in Dubai and the Northern Emirates has commemorated the country’s national as well as modern-day heroes as part of their celebration of the National Heroes’ Day on August 31.

In a video posted on their Facebook Page, the consulate has collaborated with various entities in order to give insightful information about the revered holiday, and how it honors the bravery and patriotism of the men and women who fought for the country’s freedom.

It also aims to pay tribute to all the country’s frontliners—deemed as the modern-day heroes.

Among those it has partnered for this initiative include National Commission on Culture and Arts, Sangguniang Masang Pilipino International Incorporated (SMPII), as well as Ralph Maligro, for the song “Kayumanggi.”

Maligro is a UAE-based singer/songwriter and winner of the Consulate General’s songwriting contest in 2017.

The video also featured the story of  UAE-based Filipino fronliner Bayan Kimamao, the head of nursing staff at Dubai Central Prison who got infected with COVID-19 during his duty. The virus attacked his kidneys severely, resulting in a comatose that lasted more than 30 days.

The Consulate also showed photos of other Filipino medical workers in the UAE who have been courageously battling the disease and taking care of patients since the start of the pandemic.

“Their unwavering courage, dedication, and tireless efforts during this unprecedented time inspire us all,” said the Consulate.
