Abu Dhabi Police ensures public safety following gas pipe explosion incident, normal operations resume

Officials from the Abu Dhabi Police has affirmed to the public that the area where the restaurant explosion took place on the morning of August 31 is now secure and safe.

Authorities state that all injured individuals have been moved to the nearest medical facility and that all residents in the vicinity have been evacuated for their safety.

They also assured that normal operations have returned and roads have been reopened once again.

“Our thanks to all those involved for their efforts and rapid response in dealing with this incident, and for demonstrating the highest levels of professionalism. As a result, the situation was managed effectively, and normal operations resumed in record time,” as per a tweet from the Abu Dhabi Government Media Office.

Official reports state that the incident was caused by a leaking gas pipe from a residential building.

“The incident was caused by a leaking gas pipe in a residential building on Sheikh Rashid Bin Saeed Road in Abu Dhabi. This mainly affected a restaurant in the building, as well as a neighbouring building. There was no other damage,” added the report.

The incident this morning took the lives of two people and injured several others who are currently recuperating at the hospital. The Philippine Embassy in the UAE has extended their support for any Filipinos who may have been affected by the explosion.

Separate gas pipe incident also took place in Dubai during the early hours of the morning of August 31.

Officials urge the public to exercise caution when dealing with gas pipes and other power sources to avoid similar incidents in the future.

“We thank the community for their cooperation and for relying on official news sources, and urge caution when dealing with gas connections and other power sources. We reaffirm the security service’s vital role in serving the community and protecting people’s safety,” concluded the statement from the Abu Dhabi Government Media Office.
