A 92-year-old woman in Balagtas, Bulacan fell victim to the notorious budol-budol gang, siphoning off her Php7 million banks savings.
The Philippine National Police caught the suspect through an entrapment operation, according to a GMA News report. The suspect was identified as Anthony Jitula.
Jitula was caught in a bank after he victimized the 92-year-old grandmother, Remedios Buizon.
The police said that the suspect is among the group who conspired in order to steal Buizon’s hard-earned money from working in the US for 30 years.
Based on the initial investigation, the victim met Jitula last month when she sold some home appliance.
The suspect then befriended Buizon and even offered the victim to invest in a home appliance business.
“Mag-ingat sa mga kakausap sa inyo. ‘Wag kayong magtiwala agad. Hindi katulad natin lahat ang tao, may mga walanghiya ngayon. Kay tanda ko na, aargabiyaduhin pa nila. Imbis na tulungan nila. Sa aking mga pinuno, ayon ang dapat nilang bantayan,” Buizon said.
Police warned the public about an increase of cases like this due to the prevailing pandemic and quarantine in the country.
