A first-of-its-kind sand bike track in Dubai is being developed on 50-kilometer stretch in the forests of Mushrif National Park.
The Dubai Municipality announced the project which provides suitable alternatives to encourage residents to practice cycling at Mushrif National Park that is less than 20 kilometers from the city center and 10 kilometers from Dubai International Airport.
In the first phase, the track extends for a length of 20 km, 30 km in the second phase, and has more than 70,000 trees. It will add 276 kilometers]to bring the total length of bicycle paths in Dubai to 739 km by 2026.
Director-General of Dubai Municipality, Dawoud Al Hajri, said, the project remains a “qualitative addition to the package of infrastructure projects, services and facilities” of the Dubai government.
He added that the width of the track in its first part is three meters and it passes between the corridors of the forests of Mushrif National Park and will accommodate more than 3,000 cyclists per day.
The cycle track will start from the designated area next to the main gate of the Mushrif National Park and ends at the same point with 3 fast-return tracks linked to 3 resting sites in addition to two bike repair and rental shops.
The track has three crossing bridges as a first stage, up to 10 bridges at the end of the project implementation and will become the new destination in the emirate for sports and adventure enthusiasts. It will also host regional and international competitions.
