A group of Filipino engineers volunteered to help preserve the UAE’s pristine environment by conducting a coastal clean-up drive.
The Institute of Integrated Electrical Engineers of the Philippines – UAE Chapter (IIEE – UAE Chapter), in partnership with the Municipality of Umm Al Quwain and Gulftic Certification, held the clean up drive last March 12 in line with IIEE’s aim to save the planet and be an instrument of change with full adherence to the UAE’s safety protocols.
There were 35 participants, comprising mostly of Filipino Registered and Professional Electrical Engineers based here in the UAE. All individuals who took part in the drive were all vetted to have had taken both doses of the COVID-19 vaccine and had presented negative results of their PCR tests prior to the event.
Engr. Eduardo A. Bangate Jr., Committee Vice Chairman, stated that their group noticed the emerging problem of trash left by residents and tourists in the area, which might affect the environment.
He thanked the full support of their entire team in close collaboration with local authorities that led them to collect and properly dispose of several bags of trash along coastal areas.
“We appreciate the strong effort shown by our committee chairman, Engr. Marlon Hipolito who took the lead in accepting the challenge in initiating this activity, fully supported by our chapter president, Engr. Melchor De Roma, and former IIEE-Middle East Governor, Engr. Victorino Abejero, which eventually led to the realization of this event. Furthermore, the success of this activity could not have been attained without the partnership with Gulftic Certification headed by the Managing Director, Dr. Yayah Al Jasmi, and the Municipality of Umm Al Quwain who have shown very strong commitment in supporting this endeavor,” said Engr. Bangate.
“This is just the start, we plan to make this a continuing advocacy of the organization. Our plan is to do it with all the seven emirates of the UAE. Who knows, maybe we could go beyond,” he added.
