Singapore has announced that the iconic Merlion statue in Sentosa island will be demolished to make way for a S$90 Sentosa Sensoryscape project.
The Sentosa Development Corporation, however, clarified that there’s no confirmed demolition date yet for the famous statue but the last day of operations will be on October 20.
Built in 1995, the Sentosa Merlion is the biggest Merlion statue in Singapore. The Sentosa statue is much bigger than its counterpart in Singapore at Merlion park.
The demolition of the Merlion statue is needed to construct a transportation system to connect Sentosa and Pulau Brani for the Sensoryscape Project.
The project hopes to link Resorts World Sentosa to the beaches and southern part of the city-state. It aims to open in 2022.
