Filipino artist Rens Tuzon uses coffee as a unique ingredient for his art. Dubbed as the Philippines’ bohemian coffee artist, Tuzon represented the Filipino pride in the 2018 Coffee Art Project at the New York Coffee Festival, where he won 1st runner-up last Oct. 15.

His entry entitled “Golden Happiness Coffee Brings” depicts an old couple, sharing smiles and laughs over their cups of coffee.

“I’m so proud and honored to represent my country at the New York City Coffee Festival for The 2018 Coffee Art Project. Thank you so much,” said Tuzon on Instagram.

In an interview with the Philippine News Agency, the coffee artist stated that he was surprised his entry won the hearts of the foreign judges and exhibit organizers.

“Ang ma-exhibit lang ang gawa ko sa harap ng international crowd ay panalong-panalo na para sa akin dahil sa high profile exposure. Pero ang manalo ka pa, sobrang blessing na at salamat sa Diyos,” he shared.

Tuzon said that he did not use any other medium to enhance his winning piece. “I just used coffee, but still, I need it to be brewed to make it a lot thicker and ready for a coffee art painting in various different tones,” he said.

His winning artwork competed against 39 other coffee paintings created and submitted by artists from across the globe.
