Movie Review: The Day After Valentine’s

If you think about it, the title pretty much implies that it is not your usual happy ending kind of a romantic movie. Well, it really isn’t. (Spoiler alert!) Though the story is more about fixing a broken heart, the entirety of it all falls under what love is primarily for a person, especially to those who are broken inside. Here’s what one of the official entries to the Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino (PPP) has got to offer for the movie goers.

Lead characters JC Santos portraying the heart-broken guy ‘Kai’, met Bela Padilla as Lani in the shop where she was working for as a store assistant. They both ‘clicked’ right away and became really close friends that easily. Learning about Kai’s heartbreak, Lani helped him overcome his ‘brokenness’. They went to Lanai Hawaii, the hometown of Kai, and there the two finds the complexity of what they feel for each other.

What is exciting about this movie is that it opens up how two individuals grow up in a different setting – a functional and dysfunctional one – and how their past experiences shape their very core. Another point, which our kababayan would enjoy, and can definitely relate is the actors ‘hugot lines’ bickering and bantering.

See what happens at the end of a broken boy meeting a broken girl. Refreshingly good and this will somehow leave you wondering about your own definition of ‘ROMANTIC LOVE’.
