DUBAI: While most Filipinos go to UAE in search of greener pastures, others venture for a comeuppance with love – and most of them don’t fail, at all.
Every week, the embassy and consulate general officiate mass weddings of about 20 couples each.
“We don’t run out of couples to wed,” former Consul General Frank Cimafranca once told The Filipino Times in an interview during his term a few years back.
Forty couples a week (20 each at the embassy and consulate) is 160 couples in a month by 12 months is 1,820 a year!
“Pwede ding option yung para makahanap ng love life di ba?” said Jake Sumawang dela Cruz, who found the love of his life in Dubai and married her at the consulate general.
“Dito na rin kami kinasal pero wala pa rin kaming baby; in God’s time we’ll have one or two,” dela Cruz said. (Jojo Dass)
