The boodle fight experience at Sinugba sa Cucina

Bare hand eating with banana leaves and beautiful food presentation isn’t something you do every day, but if you and your peers opt for this kind of dining experience once in a while or on a usual basis, make sure you don’t miss out what Sinugba sa Cucina has to offer. Singuba sa Cucina first opened in 2005 at Al Attar Shopping Centre in Karama.

Due to popular demand, it opened another branch in Al Nahda, Sharjah. The restaurant is making a name of its own, serving fresh and flavorful grilled dishes. Sinugba in Cebauno language means grilled, which is the restaurant’s main offering.

According to Carlo Alison Sobingsobing, co-owner of Sinugba sa Cucina, the restaurant’s main goal is to showcase the “best of the bests” of Philippine cuisine. He shared that their kitchen chefs all hailed from different culinary destinations in the Philippines, ensuring that they make sure each traditional dish have a twist. The restaurant is no fancy, it’s a typical cafeteria with nothing but good food and great service to offer with Carlo saying “this place is for cowboys.” He also added that through their best-selling boodle fights, people can satisfy their usual grilled cravings for an affordable price.

Sinugba sa Cucina offers dishes from Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao through their themed boodle fights namely Sinukman, Sinulog and Kadayan Festivals. During our food review, Carlo and his team of talented and skilled Pinoy chefs served their special seafood boodle fight. To be honest, the photos don’t do any justice on how humongous the serving of the rice and the elaborate mix of seafood from Kinilaw na Tanigue, Calamares, Sinaing na Tulingan, Buttered Shrimps and Grilled Buttered Tahong.

It looks so beautifully exotic that it makes dining so festive. Add to that the Pancit Canton, Maja Blanca, fresh veggies and Iced Tea on the side.

This very generous serving can easily feed a table of six hungry adults, and best of all, it only costs AED 190! To first time diners like me who doubt the freshness of the food, please be guaranteed that this one won’t disappoint. Eating in Sinugba sa Cucina is synonymous to that dining by the sea shore and let’s not forget the taste which is amazingly impressive.

According to Carlo, the seafood has been marinated in special, authentic sauces and grilled to perfection. He said that the boodle fight takes about 30 minutes to be served because everything is cooked right on the spot guaranteeing the freshness of the food.

The restaurant was founded by Carlo’s mother, Citas Santarin, an OFW who has a passion for cooking and serving food. For almost a decade, they never missed a chance to serve Filipino food to various Philippine Consulate, POLO OWWA and other Filipino community affairs.
