Briton claims girlfriend falsely accused him of assault to escape deportation

LONDON: A UK-based car dealer, who spent £500,000 (PhP31 million) on a woman he alleged was a prostitute, claimed he was falsely accused of assault by her because she desperately wanted to stay in Britain.

Andrew Maylen, 48, told the Chelmsford Crown Court that he fell “madly in love” with Lynn Lozano, a Filipina, after meeting her on holiday and subsequently helped her set up base in the UK, reported The Telegraph.

The businessman, from Bishop’s Stortford, reportedly told the court he had lavished half a million pounds on Lozano over a seven-year period, including paying for exotic holidays and buying her presents.

He also drove her round in a Ferrari and bought her a Tag Heuer watch, Mulberry handbag and Versace sunglasses as part of more than £50,000 he splashed on her each year, the report said.

He was taken to court after Lozano, 39, accused him of grabbing her wrist and elbowing her in the face on January 25.

But Maylen, who had a partner and child already in the UK, reportedly claimed she only made the allegation because her residency permit – granted in September 2014 – runs out onMarch 17 next year. The Government’s website states that if a relationship with a British citizen has broken down because of domestic violence, an application for indefinite leave to remain may be possible.

He also denied her claim to police that she had been treated like “a slave”, that her life was “hell” and that she had to beg for food and money, reported The Telegraph, adding that the jury at Chelmsford Crown Court found Maylen not guilty of assault.

The court had heard Maylen had fallen in love with Lozano despite being in a 30-year relationship with a woman in the UK.

The pair met her in February 2009 in Café Havana bar in Manila, where he claimed she was working as a prostitute. In her evidence, she denied she was a prostitute when they met, said the news portal.
