The Hatta water reservoir project in Dubai has reached a completion rate of 76.8%, according to the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA). The project, which is expected to be finished in April 2023, is set to cost around AED 86 million and will have a storage capacity of 30 million imperial gallons.
The project includes the construction of two reservoirs, supporting buildings, and extended entrance and exit pipes. The foundation works for the facilities and reservoirs are 100% complete, while above-ground works are 85% complete and almost 98% of the pipes have been laid.
During an inspection tour of the site, DEWA CEO Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer said that the Hatta water reservoir will support the Comprehensive Development Plan for Hatta, launched by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. The plan aims to enhance the efficiency and reliability of the water network, improve water flow, and increase the volume of water reserves in order to sustain water resources in the region.
This aligns with the Dubai Integrated Water Resource Management Strategy 2030, which focuses on using cutting-edge technologies and innovative solutions to enhance water resources.
In addition to the Hatta water reservoir project, DEWA is also working on a project to store 6 billion gallons of water in aquifers that can be retrieved when needed. This will provide Dubai with a strategic reserve of over 50 million gallons of desalinated water per day in emergency situations for 90 days, while ensuring the quality of the stored water remains unaffected by external factors.
