Al Ain court orders man to pay AED 10,000 fine for insulting workmate on WhatsApp

The Al Ain Court has ordered a man to pay AED 10,000 fine for insulting a workmate on WhatsApp.

The Court asked the man to cover the cost of the victim’s legal fees after finding the Arab defendant guilty of insulting and threatening his colleague, under the UAE’s anti-cybercrime law, by sending an insulting voice message.

The Al Ain Court of First Instance issued the order after the man’s colleague sued him for AED 50,000 for moral and psychological damages.

The man in his 20s had filed a lawsuit against his colleague and the voice messages were presented in court as evidence and after hearing from both parties, the judge decided that the plaintiff be awarded AED 10,000 in compensation.
