Filipina weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz managed to secure her slot in the upcoming Tokyo Olympics after competing in the Asian Weightlifting Championships in Tashkent, Uzbekistan on Sunday afternoon.
This is Diaz’s fourth Olympic bid having made her debut in 2008 in Beijing. She also played in London in 2012, and won silver in Rio de Janeiro in 2016.

She would’ve secured her slot last March 2020 but it was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Diaz is now the seventh Filipino athlete to clinch a ticket to the Tokyo Games. She joins Eumir Marcial, Irish Magno, Nesthy Petecio and Carlo Paalam, gymnast Caloy Yulo, and pole vaulter EJ Obiena.
Diaz won the silver medal in the women’s 53-kilogram category in the 2016 Rio Olympics to end the Philippines’ 20-year medal drought. (TDT)
