Half a million smuggled drugs worth AED15 million seized by Sharjah Police

Confidential information, once verified, can become a solid asset to launch massive operations against narcotics smugglers.

The Anti-Narcotics Department of the Sharjah Police, who acted on a tip-off from a reliable informant, has seized a whopper of a haul of smuggled ‘Xanax’ drugs with a street value of AED15 million from a gang of nine Asians.

According to Lt. Col. Majid Al Asam, Director of the Anti-Narcotics Department, said a sting operation was launched immediately after receiving information that more than half a million of the extremely addictive drugs would be smuggled into the emirate.

Within 12 hours of surveillance on the ground, the police force department arrested the gang members, who confessed that they were targeting to distribute the narcotics in different parts of the country.

The police office urged residents to report any knowledge about drug peddlers and smugglers through their hotline 8004654 or via [email protected].
