Motorists are advised not to alter or tamper their plate numbers, stating that those who do so will immediately face the court.
The Abu Dhabi Police advised the public that motorists who drive vehicles with fake and/or obscured plate numbers will be directly referred to public prosecution.

Motorists caught in this illegal act will also have to pay a fine of AED 50,000 (Php 660,000) to have their vehicle released from impoundment.
Authorities also advise that it is illegal to make any changes or use number plates in a way that is inconsistent with the legislation in force.

The vehicle will remain with the authorities until the driver has paid for its release.
Impounded vehicles due to this voilation will be auctioned after three months if left unclaimed by the owner.
