ACT-CIS Party-list Rep. Eric Go Yap is COVID-19 negative.
The Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM) publicly apologized to Yap that the report they forwarded to him showed he is COVID-19 positive.
RITM said it was a “clerical oversight.”
“We profusely and sincerely apologize to Hon. Eric Go Yap for the unnecessary discomfort this incident has caused,” RITM said in a statement.
President Duterte has been placed under quarantine because he met Yap during a meeting at the Palace last Saturday.
“(Rep. Yap’s) results are by no means a false positive,” the health research facility doing the testing on COVID-19 patients said.
The RITM fingered an augmentation staff as the one who committed an “encoding error” which was only discovered late last night by Molecular Biology Laboratory of the DOH-RITM. The employee came from “outside the regular workforce of the laboratory and already being dealt with administratively.”
“We maintain that our testing process is compliant with the World Health Organization (WHO) protocol, and that our results remain accurate despite this incident. The polymerase chain reaction (PCR) testing procedure still stands as the gold standard in detecting the genetic sequence of the SARS-CoV-2—the virus that causes COVID-19,” the RITM added.
Due to the incident, the RITM placed “another layer of verification” for all succeeding reports we will submit.
“We promise that this, and other associated incidents, will never happen again,” it added.
