Prince Albert II of Monaco has been tested positive for the dreaded novel coronavirus that has killed more than 8,000 and infected 219,000 people worldwide.
The 62-year-old leader of Monaco is the first head of state and monarch who is confirmed to have contracted the COVID-19.
“His state of health is not a source of concern. The Sovereign Prince is closely followed by his attending physician and specialists from the Princess Grace Hospital Centre,” his office said in a statement.

Prince Albert continues to work from the office of his private apartment and has been in constant communication with his Cabinet and closest aides, the Palais Princier de Monaco added.
So far, there are 20 confirmed cases of coronavirus in the tiny Mediterranean nation with only 40,000 population.
Aside from Prince Albert, two other heads of states are running their governments from their homes following the surge of COVID-19.

Canadian and Spanish prime ministers Justin Trudeau and Pedro Sanchez are on self-quarantine after their respective wives were tested positive for coronavirus.
Earlier, Pope Francis of the Holy See, Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte, US President Donald Trump and Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro were among heads of states who were tested negative for COVID-19.
