Quezon City Regional Trial Court (RTC) is set to release its ruling on the bloody 2009 Maguindanao massacre on Thursday.
58 people were killed including 32 journalists and media workers.
The incident is often dubbed as the world’s worst election-related violence and single attack on journalists.
QC Judge Jocelyn Reyes Solis will be handing down the verdict to 101 accused including the members of the Ampatuan clan in Maguindanao.
Prime suspects include Zaldy Ampatuan, Datu Unsay Andal Ampatuan Jr. and Sajid Ampatuan who is currently out on bail.
80 suspects remain at large according to the latest update on the case.
“The court will decide on the basis of evidence and we hope that justice will be given to the parties, especially the prosecution,” Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo said in a statement.
Justice Chief Menardo Guevarra even added that ‘justice will be served’ and the prosecution did its best on the case.
The trial is expected to last for four hours and is dependent on the prosecution and the defense team on how the decision will be read.
