Former Senate President Aquilino “Nene” Pimentel dies at 85

Former Senate President Aquilino “Nene”  Pimentel Jr., has passed away on Sunday, October 20. 

The founder of PDP-Laban died at the age of 85. 

“Our beloved Tatay Nene has joined his Creator at 5:00 am today Oct 20, 2019. We thank all those who have been a part of his life. We ask for prayers for the repose of Tatay Nene’s soul. Thank you to all,” Senator Koko Pimentel said in an Instagram post today. 

Prior to his death, Nene Pimentel’s family asked for prayers after the former senator was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit in an undisclosed hospital because he was “very ill”. 

Pimentel was the lead of the opposition during the Martial Law period by the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos. 

He became the Senate President from the year 2000 to 2001.
